  • WHO

Years 2, 3 & 4 Junior Cricket is suitable for children (both boys & girls) in School Years 2, 3 & 4. Children in School Year 2 are welcome to play up (or down) a grade at this age depending on friends and abilities but once a child is in School Year 3 (as at the start of a cricket season - Oct) they MUST play in the corresponding Year 3 cricket grade. This will mean that some children may have to repeat Year 3 if they were playing up a grade the season before.

All of these teams are selected to provide a mix of abilities and schools as much as possible. Our grade coordinators do their utmost to accommodate team mate requests within these guidelines, usually with highly successful outcomes. However, we can offer no guarantees and appreciate your understanding that not all requests can be met.

  • WHAT

Teams (8-a-side) play in the Eastern Districts Cricket Association (EDCA) Saturday morning competitions.  The limited-over games are approx. 2 hours long and rules are formatted so that all children get the opportunity to participate equally throughout the game. These Year groups play with a Junior size Incrediball (soft ball).

Please click here to view the Years 2 to 4 playing rules as set by Eastern District Cricket Association (EDCA).

Weekly team practices will generally be held on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from 4.00pm, at Shore Road Reserve or Thomas Bloodworth Park. Actual practice day and time will be confirmed by your team coach. These practices will be led by team parent coaches but a Club youth coach will be employed to assist each team.

  • WEAR:

Children should wear the Parnell Cricket Club polo shirt plus white shorts which are available from the Club's sponsor, Players Sports, at 14 Melrose Street, Newmarket. Ph 522 8170.          A sunhat is essential and PCC caps and hats are also available at Players Sports. Suitable footwear, such as sneakers, should be worn.

All cricket equipment is provided in a team gear bag so there is no need to invest in cricket gear until you are sure of your child's commitment.

  • WHERE:

The EDCA cricket competition involves teams from Parnell, University and Grafton cricket clubs and games rotate between the grounds of these 3 cricket clubs. Details of all venues can be found under Ground Maps in the main menu.

Please note that the Parnell Cricket Club home ground is divided into two separate playing areas. Shore Road Reserve is the park beside the main carpark where the clubrooms, changing rooms & the Terry Jarvis Centre are located. Thomas Bloodworth Park is the park located westwards across the footbridge from Shore Road Reserve, opposite the dairy.

This season New Zealand Cricket now requires all junior team coaches of Years 1-5 to complete a Foundation Coaching Course and all coaches of Years 6 & up must complete the Advanced Foundation Course. The Club's professional coaches will be holding a series of courses which all parent coaches must attend. Details to be advised.

In addition NZC are requiring that all coaches & team managers must provide a police vetting check for this coming season. This check will only advise of serious crimes, not minor infringements and is now standard with most other sporting Clubs throughout the country. Please refer to the New Zealand Cricket message here.                                                      Further details to be advised.
